WHAT IS FUTURESURFING?
An exciting eight-week programme that takes groups of students on a journey of self discovery, exploring possible career options and the world of work while developing the vital self-promotion skills and strategies they will need to survive and thrive in an increasingly competitive global workplace.

WHAT IS A FUTURESURFER?
Someone who sets goals and takes actions in their life based on an awareness of their purpose, their talents and of opportunities in the world.

WHY DO WE NEED IT?
Our children are preparing for jobs that don’t yet exist, in which they’ll use technologies that aren’t yet invented, in order to solve problems we don’t even know are problems yet. In this fast-changing environment, it’s more important than ever that our kids are clear about what they want. Those who are really aware of their talents and how to use them will be the ones who thrive in the future.

WHO IS IT FOR?
Students aged between 13 and 24 years.

HOW DOES FUTURESURFING HELP?
Through live workshops and online resources, we engage students’ interest and accelerate the learning process. Using games, audiovisual experiences and interactive activities, we empower them to design career opportunities, experiment with their ideas about their future and consider how they will respond to the obstacles that they will face.

WHAT’S SPECIAL ABOUT IT?
We inspire students to think about their futures, helping them make the most of their study effort and parents’ current and future investment in their education.

Students will:

  • Identify their interests and abilities
  • Develop personal responsibility and leadership
  • Build self confidence and resilience
  • Establish a sense of purpose
  • Explore a range of potential career options
  • Create a toolkit to make informed career decisions

SOME TIPS FOR PARENTS
From the day our children are born, we have dreams of who they will become. But we must give our teenagers the freedom to explore what they want and need from life. Here’s how to offer guidance and support without interfering:

  • BE CURIOUS Ask your children what interests them, what they think about your job and others that they observe in their daily life.
  • BE OPEN AND HONEST Take time to think about your own career. Be honest about the highs and lows you have experienced.
  • BUILD CONNECTIONS Encourage your children to seek out experiences such as volunteering, work experience and extra-curricular activities and meet other adults who can answer their career questions.
  • ENCOURAGE IDEAS AND EXPERIMENTING Let your children explore ways to pursue their own passions rather than follow a parental view of a ‘sensible’ career path.
